Transkription: Curiosity and discovery…
[Surveillance Bug Transcript - Encrypted Line] Source: Agent @Takumi Participants: Dr. Maha Corvus (M) Hank Johnson (H)
[Connection Established. Audio Only.]
M: Hank. I'm happy to hear from you.
H: Yeah, sorry I've been so hard to reach. I'm on the hunt for something important.
M: That woman-the one you said looked like someone you knew who had died-I've been researching her. Well, she's a part of my research.
H: What? What do you mean?
M: Hank, it's working. Whatever these Anomalies are, they're unlocking pathways-neural pathways we thought were destroyed or inaccessible.
H:...Wait, Maha. Are you saying you've found something? With Devra?
M: Yes. I've been using calibrated XM pulses based on what we've seen from MACHINA-affected Portals. It's unlocking... something. Today, she opened her eyes, Hank. Just for a second. I saw her. I felt a person there. She's trapped, but alive.
H: That's... incredible. I don't even know what to say.
M: This is why I keep telling you, Hank, the Anomalies contain answers. They're showing us how XM can rebuild what's been broken. And I'm proving it.
H: Do you know why I'm here, Maha?
M: You are looking for the Artifact that's the source of the Anomalies.
H: There are two. There's another Artifact here. The Flame. It's somehow also a part of this, but I don't understand how. A group called the Vinaashis has been guarding it for generations.
M: Vinaashis... Vinaash. Destruction?
H: They believe the Artifact embodies chaos and life-a counterbalance to the other one. MACHINA. Order and stillness.
M: And the woman you mentioned in your last message, Jahan? Their leader?
H: Her family has held The Flame for centuries. Kept it locked away. It's their faith.
M: That's admirable, in its way. Jahan's perspective, her faith-it's noble, but limited. You and I both know that discovery and progress and understanding isn't something that just happens. It's a constant pursuit.
H: She doesn't see it that way. To her, the Artifact isn't something to be... understood. Only believed.
M: MACHINA is spreading. You've seen it. If this Artifact were its counterbalance, why would keeping it locked away serve the purpose they say it holds?
H: What are you saying?
M: I'm saying that the past was about belief and fear. And the present is about curiosity and discovery. We are just beginning to uncover what XM is capable of, and how it could transform us. Transform the futures of those who need help.
H: You're talking about Devra.
M: Yes. And those that would follow. Hank, I know what it's like to feel loss. That helpless feeling. But I fight that feeling when I learn and discover and use that to heal. I can't fix those that we've already lost, but maybe...
H: They've dedicated their lives to protecting this Artifact.
M: And they've done well. But, Hank, does the future always have to be like the past?
H: I need to think.
M: I trust your judgment. I know you'll do what's right.
